The Egyptian Mau is a rare and
the only natural domesticated breed of spotted cat. They are
extremely intelligent, moderately active, outgoing and adventurous
to a fault. Their body is randomly spotted, while their legs
and tails are more banded. The Egyptian Mau makes an exceptional
companion cat with its loving personality, and strikingly
beautiful appearance.
they are well muscled and medium sized. Their heads
are a slightly rounded but still a wedge with an "M" shaped
pattern on their forehead, and have large ears. The Mau's eyes are
almond shaped and green.
The Mau is the fastest
cat, achieving speeds of over 35mph. Maus are athletic,
often leaping over six feet in the air. Three colors are
accepted for showing, which are silver, bronze, and smoke.
The Egyptian Maus origin dates
back over 3000 years. The Egyptian Mau is perhaps the oldest of all
the many breed
s of domestic cats and still the
only naturally spotted one. These cats and their kittens were traded
to Egypt from Ethiopia around 1500BC Descendent of the African Wild
Cat (Felis lyica ocreata) Egyptian Maus can be traced back to
the Egyptian Middle period, with many tombs hieroglyphics found on
the walls of the great pyramids depicting this spotted cat. The Mau
(the Egyptian word for cat) was domesticated and given the status of
a deity by the ancient Egyptians.
